Brunei Darussalam has entered the inter-monsoon period which is expected to last until May end. The inter-monsoon period is a transitional period from the Northeast monsoon to the Southwest monsoon, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department stated in a statement yesterday.
During this period, the absence of prevailing monsoonal wind flow allows local wind effects to play an important role in governing the daily weather.
Based on climatological records, the frequency of thunderstorms occurrences is high during the inter-monsoon period in comparison to the other months.
Meanwhile, the average rainy days for April is 16 days and May is 18 days.
The department said throughout this period, the weather can be hot during the day with variable light winds during the morning and active development of thunderstorm clouds in the afternoon.
Thunderstorms which mostly occur over inland areas during the evening, propagate out to the coastal and sea areas during late night to early morning.
The department will continue to monitor the weather conditions and will issue weather advisory or warnings if and when necessary.
The department advised the public to keep updated with the latest weather information by contacting the duty weather forecaster at the Forecast Centre on 114, on www.met.gov.bn, Facebook account (bruneiweather), Instagram (@bruneiweather) or Brunei WX mobile application.
