Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Jordan Haji Mahadi bin Haji Maidin presented a donation of over 100,000 food packs to Director of External Relations and Communications at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Tamara Alrifai to be distributed to the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Witnessing the handover virtually, which was held yesterday at the UNRWA headquarters in Amman, Jordan, were Permanent Secretary (Community) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari as Co-Chair of the National Committee of the Palestine Humanitarian Fund 2021 and Ghanim International Corporation Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Dr Nur Rahman.

Ghanim, appointed as the focal point for the delivery of food aid, signed a memorandum of understanding with UNRWA on February 9 to supply food financed through the fund.

Two 40-foot containers left the Brunei shores on April 20 and arrived at the UNRWA headquarters in Gaza on September 4.

They contained 2,066 cartons of convenient chicken kabsa, chicken jerish and beef rendang.

The food will be distributed to 120,000 children aged six and 15 years in 77 locations, who will be joining in the UNRWA Summer Initiative.

The fund ran for three months – from May 26 to August 23 last year – and collected some BND1,259,841.20 which went to food aid and the purchase of six ambulances.
