Brunei Darussalam is among the highest ranked in the world in terms of vaccination rate as 103.7 per cent of the Sultanate’s total population have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 78.9 per cent have received three doses.
This was said by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar during a press conference yesterday.
Likewise, children aged five to 11 who have received two doses of the vaccine reached 87 per cent, almost mirroring those who have received the first dose which is at 93 per cent.
“Those infected with COVID-19 would have to postpone the administering of the second dose, creating a possible lag between the doses,” the minister said, adding that the percentage is very encouraging. With the high level of vaccination in the country and the re-opening of the economy, Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said it will be able to guarantee safety, and hopefully, the pandemic can also be controlled during the endemic phase and avoid straining the health services.
The minister added, “We can also see cases in category 4 and 5 remaining very low.”
