Subsidised items further discounted

I would like to call on the authorities to probe the price discrepancies in subsidised food essentials such as rice.

I was recently at my residential convenience store when a customer complained to the shopkeeper about a popular brand of rice. The price is clear to see – BND12.50 per sack.

However, a number of stores are selling it at markedly lower price, despite the fact that it is a subsidised product, thus taking a loss to attract more customers.

Most countries that I’m aware of set standard pricing on subsidised goods. Is the Sultanate not doing the same?
