Electric vehicles (EVs) have been touted as an effective solution to reach zero carbon by 2050.
However, the exorbitant cost has led to a slowdown in societal adaptation of EVs. In my opinion, it would be feasible for the authorities to provide subsidies for those keen to play a part towards making the environment green.
Potential buyers should be provided with an interest-free loan for their first-time EV purchase or a BND5,000 cash rebate, for instance.
Having the cars, especially the cool and sleek Tesla, will inspire everyone to switch from petrol-fuelled cars to clean and carbon-free EVs. I am confident the policy will be workable.
After all, it would be a shame to waste those newly-set up EV stations.
With oil and gas resources depleting, we need to think smart. Providing some form of incentives to the society to switch to EVs will then ensure the vast majority can get from point A to point B without further destroying the environment and exhausting our national resources. It is now time to invest in the future.
