Study being done on flexible working hours for civil servants

The Prime Minister’s Office, through the Public Service Department, is currently conducting a feasibility study on the flexible working hours for civil servants.

According to Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Yussof, the study includes issues and challenges, as well as productivity.

He said this in response to a query by Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim on the implementation of flexible hours to address the issues of fetching children from school amid the integration of religious subjects into the general education system.

According to the minister, flexible working hours are already being practised, for those offering counter services.

The minister said once the study is completed, findings will be used to formulate a new policy on working hours.
