A TOTAL of 133 Sports School students gained a better understanding on the important role of the regional bloc of ASEAN at the Kenali ASEAN (Get to know ASEAN) roadshow at the school’s premises yesterday.
The roadshow was organised through the International Affairs Unit of the Information Department at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as the Secretariat for the
Sub-Committee on Information (SCI) of the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (ASEAN-COCI).
The programme is a continuous effort by the Information Department to instil patriotism and unity of ASEAN among students, as well as provide understanding on ASEAN’s functions and aims.
The roadshow also hopes to strengthen relationship between the department and the communities in the country, especially students.
Deputy Head of Sports School Hajah Nor Aisah binti Haji Mohd Salleh and teaching staff were also present.
Special Duties Officer Grade II and Head of the International Affairs Unit, Information Department Abdul Karim bin Hamdan made the presentation on ASEAN.
The roadshow began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and singing of the national anthem followed by the singing of the ASEAN theme song.
The workshop aimed to expose basic information of ASEAN to students in secondary schools nationwide, who are the youth and will be the country’s future leaders who can play an important role to promote bilateral ties.
It is also hoped that raising students’ awareness and knowledge on ASEAN can help them understand the role that ASEAN plays in the development of member countries.
The briefing also aimed to instil awareness and belonging among the students as one community of ASEAN in line with the ASEAN motto ‘One Vision, One Identity, One Community’.
The event concluded with the students taking part in an ASEAN quiz handled by Information Field Officer, International Affairs Unit, Information Department Haji Abdul Hanif bin Haji Abdul Rahim.
