Annually, St James’ School conducts a fund raising event to help others. This year’s beneficiary was the Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei community were they catered children with special needs. The Walkathon was held at St James’ School on July 27.
Students, teachers and parents were the ones participating in the said event themed ‘Help us to help them’. A month prior to the event, during the assembly, it was announced that during this event that there will be a costume contest. The winner from secondary and primary will both be given special prizes. The event started with a warm up led by the teachers.
After the warm up session, the teachers began to check the students’ attendance. The prefects were then instructed to hand out the provided water bottles for them to bring. As the event begun, the male and the female students began to follow their specific route; left for the female and the right for the male. The teachers who were in-charge of the event monitored the students making sure to evade any incidents as much as possible. After they finished walking, they returned to the school compound. After an hour or so, the winners for the costume contest and the highest collectors for the walkathon event were announced.
St James’ School Principal Riman binti Sitai presented the proceeds of the walkathon to a SMARTER Brunei representative during a presentation ceremony on September 26.
