Students learn about Asean

SOME 452 students from Years 7, 8 and 9 of Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School (SMSUA) attended an Asean roadshow talk yesterday.

The event was organised by the Information Department’s International Affairs Unit, as the Secretariat for the Asean-COCI Sub-Committee.

The roadshow served to expose information related to Asean to the students as they are the future leaders of the country.

It is also to raise awareness and understanding of Asean and its role in developing its member states as well as instilling a sense of belonging among students in upholding the Asean Community in line with the Asean motto of ‘One Vision, One Identity, One Community’.

A briefing on Asean was delivered by Isa bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Information Officer from the International Affairs Unit followed by a quiz session and a presentation of prizes by Cikgu Sinasuria binti Haji Ibrahim, Principal of SMSUA, to 10 students with the highest number of correct answers.

Also present was the deputy principal and academic staff.

The programme is one of the continuing efforts by the Information Department, to instil patriotism spirit and Asean-ness attitude among the secondary school students and appreciate the roles and objectives of the establishment of Asean while at the same time strengthening ties between the department and the community particularly students in the country.
