Chiew Yu and Ang Chin Gui from Chung Hwa Middle School Bandar Seri Begawan received special awards for the We Are Together – Fight Against COVID-19 Painting Competition 2020 co-hosted by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and Brunei’s Ministry of Education (MoE).
Meanwhile, Joy Elisha Emanel Q Tan from St John’s School, and Nurdina Adilah binti Haji Abdul Zamri and Nur Ummi Aziqah binti Haji Abdul Zamri from Orang Kaya Besar Imas Primary School Subok won first prizes.
Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman was the guest of honour at the Prize Presentation and Exhibition Launching Ceremony at OneCity Shopping Centre in Jalan Sungai Hanching yesterday.
MoE officials, teachers parents and students were also present.
Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong, in her welcoming remarks, highlighted that this was the second year that the embassy and the MoE collaborated in hosting the painting competition for primary school students.
The ambassador said 1,022 students from 53 primary schools participated in which 30 works were selected. Out of those, two were selected for the special award, three for first prizes, five for second prizes and eight for third prizes.
Twelve consolation awards were also handed out.
The event proceeded with the presentation of prizes to the third place winners by Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin and Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Chinese Embassy Wang Haito, followed by the presentation of the top prize, first prize and second prize winners by the ambassador and guest of honour.
The event also saw a ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch an exhibition at the ground floor of the OneCity Shopping Centre.
Second prize winners were Wazien Khalis bin Zulfigar Ali from Lambak Kanan Jalan 49 Primary School, Muhammad Danish Aidil bin Haji Hozaime and Nurul Afiqah binti Muhd Nur Khaliq from Al-Falaah School, Tiong Ing Hoe from Seri Mulia Sarjana School, and Auni binti Ahmad Aidil Aliyusah from Mahad Islam Brunei while third prize winners were Ahmad Baqir bin Abu Bakar from St James’ School, Abduki Rahim bin Abdullah from Awang Haji Mohd Yusof Primary School, Katimahar, Nurul Batrisyia Maisara binti Sofiezul Rasidi from Panglima Barudin Primary School, Limau Manis, Chole Joy Kon Siau Ying from Pengiran Pekerma Diraja Sahibul Bandar Primary School, Nurin Damia binti Ridzwan @ Siti Aisyah from Mahad Islam Brunei, Muhammad Darwish Ridhauddin bin Maslee from Katok ‘A’ Primary School, Muhammad Ikram Mus-Syawal bin Abdullah from Beribi Telanai Primary School, and Nurmaisarah binti Zahari from Nakhoda Abdul Rashid Menunggol Primary School.
