Students, academics on educational visit to Malaysia

In collaboration with Muara Port Company Sdn Bhd (MPC), Universiti Brunei Darussalam School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE) are participating in a four-day educational visit to Kuantan Port Consortium Sdn Bhd (KPC), Malaysia from October 11 to 14.

The group comprises nine postgraduate students and three academics from the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme at UBDSBE. The study visit is aimed at developing the participants’ leadership qualities, cutting-edge skill sets, industry connections, advanced knowledge and real-world experience in line with the programme objectives.

The study visit is organised under Operation and Production Management module, a core module for the MBA programme in collaboration with MPC led by Dr Fairul Rizal Rashid. KPC is jointly owned by IJM Corporation Berhad, a public listed company on Bursa Malaysia and Beibu Gulf Holding (Hong Kong) Co Ltd, a subsidiary under Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group Co Ltd (Beibu) and one of MPC’s shareholders.

The study trip features visits to four companies including Kuantan Port, Camel Battery Factory, Alliance Steel (M) Sdn Bhd and Beibu Malaysia Office. Also participating on a work visit was a delegation from MPC, led by its Chief Operating Officer Fazilah Yassin.

The delegation comprised MPC management and employees. MPC is a joint-venture company between the Government of Brunei Darussalam, represented by Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd and Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group Co, Ltd via Beibu Gulf Holding (HK) Co, Ltd.

Muara Port, a flagship project under the framework of the Brunei Guangxi Economic Corridor, has been committed in strengthening cooperation and promote development.

The primary objective of the visit is to provide students and academics with first-hand knowledge and insights into how an international port is operated. The trip offers a unique opportunity for students to observe and comprehend how operational management techniques and methods can be readily applied to real world problems. It provides students exposure to real working environments along with practical perspectives of theoretical concepts relevant to their domains.

UBDSBE is committed to its mission that is to “provide quality education and nurture innovative and caring leaders to contribute to the community”. Educational visits to industries as part of experiential learning practices are deemed pivotal in UBDSBE, to remain relevant and provide quality education.
