Around 2,000 people took part in the Fire Fighter Run 2019 in the capital yesterday, in celebration of the 59th anniversary of the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD).
Minister of Transport and Infocommuni-cations and Acting Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof was the guest of honour.
Legislative Council (LegCo) members, Acting Director of the Fire and Rescue Department Lim Hock Guan, senior officials and heads of departments also attended.
The event began with a warm-up aerobics session, followed by the start of the 12km Fun Cycling and Race, along with the 12km Open in the male and female categories.
The minister joined participants in the 3km Fun Run around the capital.
Later, the minister toured exhibition booths set up for the occasion at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, showcasing games and fire extinguishing methods.
Apart from promoting a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise, the Fire Fighter Run was also aimed at raising public awareness on the 995 hotline and the message that ‘Fire Safety is the Responsibility of All’.
The event concluded with the handover of contributions from the Brunei Firefighters Association Fund to three charity organisations.
Cheques of BND500 each were presented by Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib to Pusat Ehsan, the Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA) and the Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei.
