Strong start for national sepak takraw teams

BRUNEI Darussalam sepak takraw contingent got off to a strong start on the opening matchday of the 10th BIMPNT-EAGA Friendship Games at the Multi-purpose Hall of the Bolkiah Garrison in Berakas yesterday.

Two disciplines were held – Inter Team and Quadrant Team.

Brunei Darussalam ‘B’ edged South Sulawesi 2-1 (19-21, 21-18, 21-19); Mindanao won 2-0 (21-16, 21-14) over Sarawak; Brunei Darussalam ‘A’ beat Sabah 2-1 (21-19, 13-21, 21-13); and Brunei Darussalam ‘B’ also won against Sarawak 2-0 (21-6, 21-8); South Sulawesi won 2-0 (21-16, 21-8) over Mindanao and Brunei Darussalam ‘A’ beat Palawan 2-0 (21-13, 21-14) in the preliminary stages for the Quadrant Team category.

In the Inter Team category, Brunei Darussalam ‘A’ won 2-1 (20-22, 22-20, 21-16) against Sarawak; South Sulawesi won 2-0 (23-21, 21-10) over Palawan; Brunei Darussalam ‘B’ fell to a 2-1 (22-20, 18-21, 21-19) defeat against Labuan; and Sabah came on top over Mindanao with a 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) win.

In the quarter-finals of the Inter Team category, South Sulawesi beat Brunei Darussalam ‘B’ 2-0 (21-11, 21-10); Brunei Darussalam ‘A’ won 2-0 (21-18, 21-11) over Mindanao; Labuan beat Palawan 2-1 (15-21, 24-22, 21-11); and Sabah defeated Sarawak 2-0 (21-11, 21-11).

More matches will be played today at the same venue.
