No fatalities were reported after a blaze tore through a Kampong Masin storage facility used to stockpile plant fertiliser and plastic pots on Tuesday.

ASO Haji Aedanan bin Haji Kurus led 10 firefighters from Operation ‘F’ Branch of Pengkalan Batu Fire Station and Operation ‘A’ Branch of Beribi Fire Station to the scene after a distress call was received at 11.42am, according to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD).

The firefighters arrived to find the store engulfed by a huge blaze. Moving swiftly with the use of two fire hoses and eight ‘control dividing breeching’, they were able to contain the blaze at the 15-metre wide and 30-metre long storage facility.

The cause of the fire and estimated damage are under investigation.

The public is reminded to ensure their homes are equipped with fire extinguishers, fire blankets and battery-operated smoke detectors.

Meanwhile, wiring and electrical equipment installation should be conducted by qualified technicians, while electrical appliances should be switched off after use or before leaving the house.

Gas regulators should be covered and unplugged when not in use.
