Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar yesterday warned that stern action would be taken against those refusing to comply with the directives on social interaction and mass gatherings.
During the press conference at the Ministry of Health (MoH) building, he said, “There are still a handful of people, including certain vendors, who disregard the instructions. Therefore, I reiterate that the MoH will not hesitate to close down and take legal action on any premises and restaurants, especially outlets, which do not comply with the regulations.
“Legal action will also be taken against any individual who disregards or violates the rules and directives.”
Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham reminded that the public should not be too comfortable and complacent with the easing of the restriction measures. “Although the COVID-19 infection in our country is under control, we are still under threat from the infection.
“Therefore, the MoH wishes to remind the public to continue increased vigilance by following government advice such as not visiting public places in large crowds, practising physical distancing when outdoors, and not to bring elderly people and children outside the house unnecessarily. “
He also recommended high-risk individuals to use face masks and those not feeling well to stay at home.
“This goes together with maintaining personal hygiene, to prevent possible transmission of the infection. We do not want any situations where the transmission of new infections might occur, or where we need to reinforce the restrictions that have been put in place,” the minister said.
When asked if spot checks would be carried out on businesses and vendors to ensure compliance of the rules and regulations, the minister replied, “Yes, we will be doing that.”
