THE new intake of Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) should practise the teachings of Al-Quran and be close with it for the rest of their lives, State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned advised.

The State Mufti, who was speaking yesterday at the ceremony to welcome 60 new students to the institute, also congratulated the students’ parents, saying that because of their choices and blessings, their children were successful in being selected to further their studies at ITQSHHB.

Learning about and teaching Al-Quran, the State Mufti added, brings huge benefits and advantages.

“In this era, there are not many people who have interest in learning Al-Quran compared to other fields,” he said.

“This may be due to people looking for some economic return in learning Al-Quran, and this is a reality not only here, but also in other parts of the Islamic world.”

The State Mufti added that those looking for economic value from learning more about Al-Quran will not find it, and this can cause society to have divided views towards the holy book.

“We must instead look for value in Al-Quran from the perspective of our lives in the hereafter,” he highlighted, further advising the students to practise Ayat Kursi recitation especially during their time at the hostel.

“This could make the students more disciplined and facilitate their Al-Quran memorisation.”
