Spreading the Ramadhan spirit

Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque Takmir Committee

Some 114 orphans from Kampong Sengkurong ‘A’, Kampong Sengkurong ‘B’ and Kampong Tanjong Nangka received donations during a ceremony at the Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque in Kampong Sengkurong yesterday.

Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the guest of honour, handed over the donations.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by Imam Haji Manan bin Haji Osman, followed by a welcoming speech by Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque Takmir Committee Chairman Imam Haji Mohd Zaidin bin Haji Mohd Noor.

The chairman said out of 114, 26 were from Kampong Sengkurong ‘A’, 65 from Kampong Sengkurong ‘B’ and 23 from Kampong Tanjong Nangka.

“The collection for the donations were contributed by associations, individuals and the public,” said Haji Mohd Zaidin, adding that the event was aimed at seeking blessings from Allah the Almighty during Ramadhan, a time when all good deeds are doubly rewarded, while also assisting the orphans and bringing them joy during the holy month.

The event concluded with the recitation of Tahlil and Doa Arwah, led by Bilal Mohammad Nurkhairi bin Haji Abdul Mustafa, and Doa Selamat and Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam, led by Imam Haji Manan.

Brunei Darussalam Nurses Association

The Brunei Darussalam Nurses Association (Penjuru) carried out the Jejak Kasih Ramadhan project across the nation yesterday, to mark the holy month of Ramadhan.

The contingent to Belait District, led by Social and Welfare Division Chairperson Hajah Siti Halimah binti Md Tahir, saw four former nurses and midwives receive contributions comprising basic necessities.

The event was hoped to lessen the recipients’ burdens, while serving as a gesture of appreciation for their efforts in serving the Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, similar events were also held in Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts, bringing the number of recipients to 13.

Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque Takmir Committee

The mosque takmir committee members and congregants of Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Jangsak held a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony and presentation of donations to 16 orphans on Saturday.

Adviser of the mosque’s takmir committee Dato Paduka Haji Adnan bin Haji Zainal was the guest of honour.

The donations were contributed by the residents and the mosque’s takmir committee members.

Belait District Scouts Association

As part of the Belait District Scouts Association’s (PPDB) Baden-Powell (BP) Guild’s efforts to help those in need, guild members yesterday visited 10 households in the Belait District to present contributions to underprivileged families.

The group, comprising 14 scout members and one rover scout, was led by Guild Chairman Skip Beelie bin Tengah, accompanied by Deputy Chairman Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Abdul Ghani.

Prior to departure, the delegates loaded the contributions, comprising basic necessities, onto their vehicles at Haji Abdul Aziz’s residence.

Skip Beelie said the event represented the first of many initiatives by the guild this year.

“The donation served to prepare the recipients for the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations. The initiative aimed to aid those in need, especially those affected by the pandemic, while fostering closer ties with the communities in the district,” he added.

International Women’s Club of Brunei

The International Women’s Club of Brunei (IWCB) held a presentation of donations to 120 orphans in Tutong District at the Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam Mosque yesterday.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by the presentation of cash donations and goody bags by IWCB President Ungku Datin Hajah Fanzah binti Haji Osman, honorary members, committee members and club members. The funds used for the donations were collected from various events, along with private donations from a number of club members.

The event concluded with the recitation of Doa Selamat.

TIBA Petrol Station Cooperative

Sixty-two orphans residing in Kampong Tanah Jambu, Kampong Salambigar, Kampong Sungai Hanching, Kampong Sungai Tilong and Kampong Manggis received donations in a via drive-through distribution held by the TIBA Petrol Station Cooperative (KOTIBA) at its petrol station in Salambigar on Friday.

The event, which saw KOTIBA Chairman Haji Omar bin Haji Md Tahir hand over the donations, was part of the cooperative’s annual activities to enliven the month of Ramadhan among the underprivileged.

The donations were hoped to ease the orphans’ burdens and bring them cheer in preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
