Spotlight on renewable energy

Parents and teachers were treated to an informative and engaging showcase at Lambak Kiri Secondary School’s (SMLK) Energy Science Exhibition.

The exhibition was formed from the collaborative efforts of SMLK’s Year 10SC students and its Science Department for this year’s Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO)-Japan Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) award competition.

Themed ‘Promoting Environmental Education through Utilising Renewable Energy’, the event saw students promote education and awareness of sustainable energy sources in the form of dioramas and models.

Visitors also learnt a range of topics as geothermal and wind energy as well as their potential application through live demonstrations.

Students took the lead in presenting information to the audience on sustainable energy as well as sharing knowledge with the community through questions-and-answers sessions.

A student said, “First, we researched and delegated jobs to each of our members to ensure the process would run smoothly. We learnt that solar panels can be expensive, but economically sustainable in the long run.”

Another student shared the benefits of rising to the challenge of the exhibition: “As a graphic designer, I learnt how to design posters and models, as well as time management.”
