A total of 44 restaurants featuring over 70 dishes were awarded at the Brunei Food Awards 2020 (BFA2020) on Sunday night held in conjunction with the Brunei December Festival 2020.

The BFA2020 is a new initiative to promote and invigorate the growth of the local food and beverage industry. It is the first food award that formally recognises and awards the best dishes of both local and international cuisines in the country.

Two local establishments – Chop Jing Chew and Nasi Katok Mabohai – were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of their impact on the Brunei food culture.

A total of 336 restaurants and eateries throughout all four districts submitted more than 800 of their best dishes for evaluation since October.

Top honours for the night went to the Satami Group, Excapade Japanese Cuisine, Kaizen Sushi, Seri Damai Restaurant, Royal Brunei Culinary and PAR Food and Beverages.

Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong presented the prizes.

BFA CEO Haji Nasir bin Dato Paduka Latif, foreign dignitaries, guests and representatives of participating restaurants and eateries were also present.

Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel bin Rashed bin Hashel Al-Maskari and all attending foreign envoys participated as special judges of the BFA.
