Spotlight on Employment Order 2009

Fifty company representatives were enlightened on the Employment Order 2009 and compound fines during a Labour Department briefing at the Bumiputera Complex in the Temburong District on Saturday.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Labour of the Labour Enforcement Division Mohammad Hazizul bin Hassan delivered the briefing, chaired by Labour Inspector Md Yusof bin Haji Sidop in his capacity as Head of Labour Department Temburong District branch.

Attendees were informed that compound fines not exceeding BND1,000 would be imposed on employers who violate the Employment Order 2009 for the first and second offence, while the third offence would see them being brought to court.

The department also stressed on the importance for employers to provide employees with a written employment contract to protect the interests and rights of both parties.
