Sports meet aims to produce well-balanced healthy students

St George’s School Principal Janidi Jingan emphasised the importance of committing the school to not only produce students with outstanding academic performances, but also well-balanced healthy individuals who can contribute to the country and society through sports.

He said this during the 32nd Annual Secondary Sports Meet 2023 of St George’s School at Berakas Sports Complex.

He also highlighted a recent survey by the World Population Review 2023 on the growing concern of obesity among children in the Sultanate.

He reiterated the relevance for students to strike a balance between their studies and engagement in sports to have a successful and healthy way of living.

The event began with the marching of all the four houses onto the field, followed by the singing of the national anthem. Athletes competed in track events, which included the 100 metres (m), 200m, and 4x100m relay race followed by tug of war finals where the students exhibited teamwork and resilience.

The Green House emerged as the Overall Champion House for 2023.

The winners were awarded medals by Acting Director of the Department of Co-Curriculum Education Julaihi bin Haji Mohamad/Mohamat.

Chairman and School Board of Governors Anthony Liew Vun Chiang was also present.
