The Tutong District Scouts Association (PPDT) played a role in increasing its membership when its new Acting Scout Commissioner (ADC) and members of the Tutong District scout leaders visited Kumpulan Pengakap 2030 of Chung Hwa School Tutong recently.

Led by ADC Skipper Haji Mohd Sofian bin Haji Abdul Karim, the group was welcomed by headmaster Haji Yahya bin Haji Abdul Rahman, scout leaders and the cub scouts.

Sixty cubs welcomed them with a ‘grand howl’.

In his remarks, Skipper Haji Mohd Sofian appreciated the formation of Cub Scout groups, and the support from administrative committee, teachers and staff.

The ADC advised cubs to learn more on outdoor activities during leisure while also paying attention to studies, respecting friends and peers, and helping family members at home.

The cubs viewed an exhibition at the campsite, which displayed camping gear, cooking utensils, amateur radio sets and hiking gear. They also took part in a hiking activity at the school compound where they learnt about plants and the purpose of using them in everyday life.

It is hoped that the trips will generate excitement for newcomers to join outdoor activities as part of curriculum activities and other educational purposes.

The visit also aimed to strengthen relationship among scout leaders, cub members, school teachers, Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) and Chung Hwa School administrative committee.
