Solemnisation ceremonies to be permitted at home, other venues

Muslim couples planning to tie the knot are no longer required to be solemnised at Syariah Courts starting August 3 2020, the Syariah Courts, Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced in a press release today, referring to a previous rule dated March 24 for unions to only be held at the Syariah Courts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement added that applications for marriage issued after August 3 will permit solemnisation ceremonies at residences or other venues, subject to the adherence to the second phase mass gathering guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The latest mass gathering guideline issued by the MoH states that gatherings of not more than 100 people will be allowed starting from July 27, although physical distancing and other preventive measures should still be observed.
