Smugglers fined in five cases

THE Magistrate’s Court recently dealt with five cases of smuggled goods, where fines were handed to the defendants.

Senior Magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah binti Haji Mohd Hussain handed a fine of BND3,400 to Julie Erni binti Aji, 38, or three months imprisonment in default of payment, for possessing 12 cartons of cigarettes in her vehicle upon arriving at the Kuala Lurah Control Post at 11.30am on July 2, 2015.

Senior Magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah also handed a fine of BND1,500 to Musa bin Haji Ibrahim, 62, or two months of imprisonment in default of payment, for possessing five cartons of cigarettes in his vehicle on arriving at the Kuala Lurah Control Post at 11.05am on July 27, 2016.

Chief Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar handed a fine of BND32,000 to Mohamad Azali bin Mohd Ariffin, 44, or one year of imprisonment, in default of payment, for possessing 41 cartons of cigarettes in his vehicle at a car wash in Kampong Salambigar, at 12.24pm on June 6.

Magistrate Pengiran Hazirah binti Pengiran Yusof handed a fine of BND1,000 to Hafizul Nirwan bin Ibrahim, 21, or a month of imprisonment in default of payment, for possessing three cartons of cigarettes in his vehicle upon arriving at the Kuala Lurah Control Post at 8.50pm, on July 15, 2015.

Magistrate Kamaliah binti Ibrahim handed a fine of BND1,000 to Mohammed Sufre Zul Rizam bin Azaman, 31, or a month of imprisonment in default of payment, for possessing three cartons and two packets of cigarettes in his vehicle upon arriving at the Kuala Lurah Control Post at 3.25pm on May 1, 2014.
