A total of 1,120kg of raw meat and 191.2kg of beef lungs were confiscated during an integrated operation led by the Royal Customs and Excise Department in Kampong Mentiri area on February 5.

In collaboration with the Halal Food Control Division of the Syariah Affairs Department, the operation found the raw meat and beef lungs outside a house in Kampong Pengkalan Sibabau, Mentiri.

The raw meat and beef lung did not bear the Halal logo of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council and is believed to have been brought into the country without a Halal import permit.

The confiscated items and the case were handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for further action.

The Syariah Affairs Department said every entry of Halal meat into Brunei Darussalam must possess a valid Halal import permit permission by following the prescribed processes. The Halal Food Control Division and enforcement agencies will conduct patrols and operations to ensure the country’s laws and regulations are always complied with.

Public’s cooperation is welcome. Food smuggling activities can be reported to the division through its hotline 7166222.
