SAYYIDINA Ali Secondary School (SMSA) ‘B’ edged Islamic Studies Department (JPI) 1-0 in the final match of a futsal tournament organised by the Belait District branch of the Co-Curriculum Education Department (JPKK) for teachers in Belait District, at the Mumong Sports Complex recently.
Ten teams were split into two groups. In Group A were SBC 19, SMSA ‘B’, JPI ‘C’, El-Classico 2019 and JPKK Suka-Suka, while SMSA ‘A’, SUME, Permata AAC, T2A FT and Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Secondary School (SMPAPHRSB) made up Group B.
Former champion JPKK Suka-Suka started strong in the match by eliminating Permata AAC in the quarterfinal, and set up a semifinal clash against JPI, who beat SUME 2-1.
SMSA ‘B’ won against T2A FT 1-0, while SMPAPHRSB beat SBC 19.
In the semi finals, JPKK Suka-Suka went up against JPI, but both teams drew blanks in normal time, as the match went into penalty shootouts. JPI won 3-2.
In the second semi final match, SMSA ‘B’ won narrowly playing against SMPAPHRSB 1-0.
JPKK Suka-Suka finished third after beating SMPAPHRSB 2-0 in the third place play-off.
Belait District’s Head of Co-Curriculum Education Haji Eady Sardi bin Pehin Datu Derma Sakti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Razak presented the prizes.
Ishak bin Bakar of SMSA ‘B’ was named the Best Goalkeeper, while Mohd Adam Hakimi bin Abdullah Gelanying of SMSA ‘B’ was selected the Best Player.
