Six participants made it into the final round of the Brunei Darussalam National Public Speaking (Pidato) Competition following the preliminary round at the Language and Literature Bureau at Old Airport, Berakas yesterday.
Head of the Language Construction and Development Division Hajah Sariani binti Haji Ishak attended.
The preliminary round saw the involvement of 16 students from various secondary schools, colleges, universities, and sixth form centres. Participants delivered on topics based on the competition’s theme, which included Belia dalam Revolusi Industri 4.0, Bahasa Melayu Bahasa Kita, Belia pemangkin Pelastarian Budaya Bangsa, Bahasa Melayu dalam Mrean Digital and Belia Siaga Masa Depan.
The six finalists are Abdul Wafi bin Haji Abdul Rahan from Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), Muhammad Iqbaal Syakib bin Haji Suhib from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Ahmad Hassanul Fikri from UNISSA, Norafifah binti Haji Latif from Hassanal Bolkiah Boys Arabic Secondary School (SMALHB), Awangku Md Nukman Syawqi bin Pengiran Md Salimin from Tutong Sixth Form Centre (PTET) and Muhamad Khairul Mu’az bin Haji Sibodaud from KUPU SB.
The competition aims to strengthen knowledge, test participants’ mastery over standard Malay Language and raise awareness on current and domestic issues. It also encourages youth to be able to brainstorm and express their ideas. The final is set for January 27.
