Six missing hikers found

Six individuals who went missing at Wasai Muncung forest, Kampong Batang Mitus in Tutong District on Sunday were found and rescued by the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) personnel with villagers assistance.

The FRD said six firefighters, led by ASO Md Khairul Adidi bin Abdullah Ulang from Lamunin Fire Station with five firefighters from Special Squad Unit of Rimba Fire Station led by ABK 658 Hasanuddin rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 4.19pm.

The rescue team, joined by village residents, entered the forest in search of the lost hikers.

Five victims were found at Bukit Luba at 6.33pm while another was found at 8.29pm.

Five were found unscathed while one victim sustained light injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The FRD advised hikers to follow the safety tips, such as being aware of their surroundings while on the trail.

The agency added that hikers should avoid venturing alone, hiking in bad weather conditions and after 6pm, as well as inform friends and relatives of their plans.

Hikers are also advised to bring along a whistle, a mobile phone and adequate water supply.
