SIX foreigners who disposed trash at a bus stop were slapped with a compound fine of BND100 each by the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department Law Enforcement Unit.
The foreigners were nabbed throwing rubbish in public places in Bandar Seri Begawan and Gadong areas during a routine check by Municipal Department personnel.
The offenders are Malaysian Yap Chee Kheong, Fernando Patawaran Singson and Joanna Cunanan Valliente from the Philippines and Indonesians Robi Sehartawan, Bayu Darmawan and Budi Wahyudono.
Disposing trash in public places is punishable under of the Minor Offences Act Chapter 30 of Section 12 (1).
The six foreigners have been given seven days to settle the fine, failing which the matter will be referred to court. The six, if found guilty, will be imposed a BND1,000 fine or a month’s imprisonment for the first convicted offence.
For a subsequent offence, the punishment will be a BND3,000 fine or imprisonment of not more than three months.
The BSB Municipal Department Law Enforcement Unit urged the public to comply with regulations under the Minor Offences Act and not throw rubbish in public areas including bus stops.

Meanwhile, the public yesterday urged the authorities to install rubbish bins at bus stops.
A bus commuter in the Gadong commercial area said, “I always use this bus stop to go home and I feel very uncomfortable with the rubbish at this bus stop. I hope the authorities can provide a rubbish bin to dispose waste and also empty the trash in the bins frequently.”
