Six families affected by floods, house fires and house collapse received financial assistance from the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through the allocation of funds under the Department of Community Development (JAPEM).
The handover ceremony took place at Citra Budaya Hall at the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports (KKBS) on Tuesday. Acting Deputy Director of JAPEM, Mirany Floridzah binti Abdul Rahman presented the grants.
Four families were affected by floods while one family lost their house to a fire and another family was affected by a house collapse.
Haji Othman bin Ibrahim’s house at STKRJ Kampong Telisai in the Tutong District was gutted by fire on October 8. A section of the house was damaged while a member of the family sustained hand and feet injuries.
Meanwhile, four houses at RPN Kampong Mengkubau and Kampong Kapok in the Brunei Muara District belonging to Hajah Alimah binti Awang Haji Ahad, Tan Chia Chun, Ameliani binti Haji Emran and Chee binti Jemat were affected by floods reaching over one feet high on September 4 and October 8.
Victim of house collapse, Sarinah binti Haji Mohamad who lived in Kampong Saba Ujong, also shared that her house was no longer safe to live in since the October 6 incident but was fortunate that her family were all unharmed.
