Six architects, engineers receive recognition

FOUR individuals received the recognition of the ASEAN Architects and two more received the ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineers during a yearly ceremony of the Board of Architects, Profressional Engineers and Quantity Surveyors (BAPEQS).

The guest of honour, Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar presented certificates to the recipients.

The recipients for the ASEAN Architect (AA) were Mahri bin Haji Latif from Gemilang Latif Association, Muhammad Billy Lim Abdul Aziz @ Lim She Yueh from Arkitek Rekajaya, Haji Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad from Ahmad Architects and Haji Abdul Ghani bin Haji Mohamed from AGA Abdul Ghani Arkitek.

Meanwhile the recipients of ASEAN Chartered ASEAN Professional Engineer (ACPE) were Haji Mohd Saney bin Haji Abdul Halim from Petrokon Utama Sdn Bhd and Hajah Siah binti Haji Amat from HSIA and Associates Sdn Bhd.

Bruneian architects and professional engineers are given privilege to register as AA and ACPE through BAPEQS as the professional regulatory authority for Brunei Darussalam in line with the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA). The objective of the agreement is to enable the mobility of several services amongst ASEAN member countries.

Registered AA and ACPE are eligible to become registered foreign Architect and Registered Foreign Chartered Professional Engineer in the ASEAN professional regulatory authority counterparts.

Permanent Secretary (Infrastructure, Housing and Professional) at the Ministry of Development Haji Amer Hishamuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Zakaria in his opening remark revealed that there are currently 17 professional architects in this country who received accreditation as ASEAN Architect and 24 professional engineers who have obtain accreditation as ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer.

The minister also presented the certificate of recognition for the Institution of Surveyors, Engineers and Architects (PUJA) Professional Assessment (PPA) route 2 to Legislative Council member and PUJA President Yang Berhormat Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman.

The minister also launched the BAPEQS online registration, yesterday which is another milestone for BAPEQS. This allows professionals to renew or submit new applicants to the BAPEQS via the online registration platform. BAPEQS hopes that renewal can be made no later than December 1 every year and necessary documents updates can be uploaded online at
