THE Youths and Sports Bureau of the Mukim Consultative Council of Mukim Liang (MPM Liang) in collaboration with the Brunei Darussalam Seni Warisan Pelangi Association (PSWPBD) marked the eighth anniversary of the formation of the MPM Liang Pencak Silat Club recently.
The celebration at the Gerai Wawasan in Mukim Liang saw Permanent Secretary (Municipal and District) at the Ministry of Home Affairs Salminan bin Haji Burut as the guest of honour. He was welcomed by Head of MPM Mukim Liang Youths and Sports Bureau Abdul Rahman bin Awang Haji Asli.
Acting Belait District Officer Ridzuan bin Haji Ahmad, department heads and officers from government departments in the Belait District, penghulus and village heads in the Belait District also attended. The event started with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah.
In his speech, Abdul Rahman said, “Formed on March 8, 2011, the club represents a branch of the Brunei Darussalam Seni Warisan Pelangi Association, which aims to promote and educate on the art of Pencak Silat by means of conducting lessons.
“This will lead to Silat performers performing before an audience to promote the art and inspiring others to follow.”
He added, with over 150 members comprising children, youth and residents of Mukim Liang, the club consistently participates in various national and international showcase events and competitions.
Following the cake-cutting, a series of Silat performances were staged by club members.
Silat performers from Membakut and Ranau, Sabah were also invited to perform at the event, further strengthening relations between performers from here and the neighbouring countries.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to committee members of the Pencak Silat Club (2011-2018), and appointment letters to members of the 2019-2023 session.
