Shooting Star was crowned champions in the women’s category of the 5.11 National Basketball League at the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) Court in Batu Bersurat
The newly-crowned champions finished the tournament in a three-way tie alongside Tutong Basketball and BBA-Systematic Living with two wins and a loss each.
Nevertheless, the title was decided by virtue of point difference based on the matches contested by the three teams. Tutong Basketball emerged runners-up while BBA-Systematic Living snatched third place.
Shooting Star head coach Decorey Jones highlighted that her charges demonstrated positive energy to carry them to victories.
He said, “We have a young team with a couple of veterans. I feel that they had a lot of energy and they had fun with the game.”
“I think that’s what drove them to be able to play freely. That’s the equation for winning a game.”
Shooting Star’s last match came in the 48-45 defeat against Tutong Basketball but wins over BBA- Systematic Living and Belait District Basketball Association got them over the line.
“We had some nerves in the last championship game because of lack of experience. But, once the nerves calmed down, they started having fun again and the competitive side came back to them. They did everything that got us there.”
He continued, “I think the positive energy we had carried the team to winning games. When you have that type of energy, it will push you through all obstacles.”
President of Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) Jake Goh presented the prizes. Last night also saw the final matches of the women’s category played out with BBA-Systematic Living winning 51-20 against Belait District Basketball Association (BDBA). The men’s category continues tonight with Team 409 taking on Bandar Rocket while Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) will play against BDBA.
The tournament is scheduled to finish tomorrow.
