Shinny Chia from The Collective Art Events has been shortlisted for the 2020 Shell LiveWIRE Top Ten Innovators (TTI) Awards, a global competition that highlights and rewards businesses that demonstrate excellence in innovation.
According to a statement, The Collective was acknowledged for its creative campaigns to create synergies among Brunei’s non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and bring awareness and impact to social, economic and environmental causes, such as entrepreneurship, female empowerment, and diversity and inclusivity issues.
Being one of 21 finalists, The Collective’s milestones include starting the first creative makerspace in Brunei, being featured in the Borneo Bulletin for its contribution to the creative industries, representing Brunei at the International Visitors Leadership Programme, being a Ricebowl Award recipient, entering into a partnership with the Yayasan foundation to run a community centre in Kampong Ayer, and the launch of a digital corporate social responsibility (CSR) platform with Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) called Community for Brunei, designed to support Brunei’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic by digitising businesses, especially those run by poverty-stricken families, to build stable incomes and provide employment in the network supply chain.
This year’s TTI Awards will focus on ‘Creating a More Liveable World’, that includes supporting entrepreneurs throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, as part of Shell’s commitment to respond to changing global needs. “Transformational solutions that address the direct and indirect impacts of the pandemic will be highly valued,” said LiveWIRE Brunei in a statement.
Ten winners will be determined through public voting, which opens today until September 16.
The ranking of the top 10, determined by a panel of judges, will be announced during the Global Entrepreneurship Week 2020.
Winners and two runners-up will be named in the three categories – energy transition, environment and circular economy, and local prosperity, with top prize of USD20,000 and runners-up receiving USD10,000.
In addition, an Outstanding Achievement Award will be presented to an enterprise that has significantly contributed to combatting the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19, along with USD10,000.
All top 10 innovators will win direct mentoring from Shell staff and the opportunity to integrate and benefit from vast linkages within Shell’s global network.
Last year, S&R Aquafarm was named a runner-up, officially placing Brunei in the top 10 for the first time since the launch of the global competition in 2015.
LiveWIRE Brunei Programme Manager Haji Abdul Yusrin bin Dato Haji Mohd Salleh said, “We’re thrilled to see entrepreneurs from Brunei competing for the Shell LiveWIRE TTI Awards.
“This is a great opportunity to highlight these entrepreneurs and showcase their talents and innovative practices.”
He added, “Let us all vote for The Collective Art Events to give it a better chance in the ranking.”
