The vision of the Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) is to ensure that Brunei Darussalam is a safe place to work and live.

SHENA’s vision and roles were highlighted by Interim Chief Executive Officer Datin Zubaidah binti Haji Mahmud during the organisation’s roadshow to showcase the importance of safety and health at the workplace at the International Convention Centre (ICC) yesterday.

SHENA plays a significant role in maintaining a robust framework, regulating health, safety, and environmental practices at the national level and ensuring compliance. These efforts aim to ensure that the culture in the workplace reduces the risk to as low as possible for people, assets and the environment.

Datin Zubaidah said, “It is appropriate for SHENA, the industry, government representatives and stakeholders to take advantage of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work to continue the commitment to monitoring workers’ well-being.”

She added, “Several activities have been planned throughout May and June to raise awareness of the importance of each individual’s role in ensuring that efforts aimed at providing a safe and healthy workplace as well as taking care of employee well-being are mandatory for every employer so that serious accidents and deaths can be avoided.”

Permanent Secretary (Safety and Welfare) at the Ministry of Home Affairs Salminan bin Haji Burut was the guest of honour at the opening ceremony.

Other activities included talks on emerging occupational diseases and ways of ensuring a safe and healthy working environment.

Interactive games also aimed to promote safety awareness in a fun and engaging manner.

The event concluded with the announcement and prize presentation for the winners of the ‘Play & Win’ contest: Amirol Hamzah bin Basri, Md Rufian bin Pengarah Haji Abdul Rahman and Muhammad Fitri bin Ahman.
