Shanghai reports two local COVID-19 cases

SHANGHAI (XINHUA) – Shanghai reported two local asymptomatic COVID-19 infections between midnight and 5pm yesterday, the Municipal Health Commission said at a press conference.

Both cases were detected during community screening, and the individuals have been sent to designated hospitals for medical observation, according to the health commission.

Epidemiological investigations were carried out immediately. As of 4pm yesterday, 131 close contacts and 295 sub-close contacts of the cases had been identified for quarantine.

Two areas connected to the infections have been classified as medium-risk for COVID-19.

Meanwhile in Beijing, two new locally transmitted infections were logged during the first 15 hours yesterday, according to local authorities.

Both infections were reported among those quarantined for observation, said Deputy Head of the Beijing Municipal Disease Prevention and Control Centre Liu Xiaofeng at a press conference.

From June 9 to 3pm yesterday, the city reported 396 COVID-19 infections in 14 districts and the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area.
