SEVERAL exciting events and activities organised by various event management bodies will take place as part of Brunei December Festival 2019 in December, which is a month-long school holiday season, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism) at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali said.
Wardi highlighted that over 40 events will be held throughout December for the festival.
“Some of the events are new, while others are those which are already established and returning for the third year,” he said at the press conference for Brunei December Festival 2019, which is organised by Brunei Tourism Board.
“This collaboration [with several stakeholders by the Brunei Tourism board] demonstrates the important roles played by all stakeholders in creating a conducive environment for event organisers and visitors.”
The deputy permanent secretary said that the festival will feature events and activities suitable for all ages under five different categories – some of which are new while some are established ones making a return for the third year.
The first category is the Food Festival, held to allow visitors to experience the richness of gastronomy and creations of talented bakers in Brunei. Events under this category include ‘The Big Bake Sale’ where bakers will showcase different baked goods and hold baking demonstrations, ‘Pakistani Cuisine’ which will feature food from the different regions of Pakistan, ‘International Food Fair with IWC Brunei’ showcasing food and delicacies from around the world under one roof, ‘French Baking’ contest and ‘Startup Weekend Brunei Entrepreneur’.
Next is the Islamic Festival where the beauty, arts and culture of Islam will be celebrated. This year’s event will feature a ‘Muslim Youth Camp’ for local and international youth, and the ‘Brunei International Islamic Festival 2.0’ – an exhibition on Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his companions which will include exhibits such as relics and treasures from their time and a 3D audio visual display presentation of the life of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
The third category is Sports and Adventure, which will feature a variety of sports and adventure race and competitions such as the ‘Brunei Bird Race Series’ in Batang Duri, where participants will take part in a race to see who sights the most bird species, and the ‘Brunei-E Sport Tournament’ (BES).
There will also be the 2nd Brunei Off-Road Challenge 2019 for off-road enthusiasts; the 2nd Shitokai Brunei Karate Open Championship 2019; the ASEAN Traditional Archery Competition 2019; the 2nd Open Brunei Double Dart Event 2019 which will see dart players from neighbouring countries competing against each other; BWN Arena 2019, a gathering involving different forms of martial arts and sports such as basketball, futsal and kickboxing; BUKUM – a 24-hour ultramarathon; Jungle Quest, an activity in Tutong for 4WD enthusiasts, nature lovers and thrillseekers; and Ground Zero, the finale of GetFit CrossFit’s Battle Royale: Season 1.
Under Culture and Creative Arts, there will be a mix of culture and creative events for people of all ages and interests. These include such as an art exhibition entitled ‘The School of Paris between Montmatre and Montparnasse and the Current European Artists’; Pusat Ehsan Musical Charity Event; Art and Culture Show organised by the High Commission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Brunei Darussalam; Brunei Film Blitz 2019; Seed 10 Phantom; Music Festival and Stardom Quest Season 4; Jerudong Park Flora Festival & Brunei Popular Landmarks; and REKA.
The last category Recreation and Shopping will feature activities such as the 1st Brunei Coding Conquest 2019; the Great Circus with Lighting Show; Jerudong Park Mega Fun Family Carnival 2019; YES Letop; Brunei Kustom Show; Lumut Liang Recreational Club Fun Karnival; the Big Car Boot Sale; Capital Bike Week 2019; 16th Mini Carnival 2019; and Charity Fruit and Food Fest 2019.
