The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested seven individuals who are believed to be involved in drug trafficking activities following the arrest of Aedi Ariif bin Haji Zullizam, who is believed to be the mastermind of the ‘Speedo’ drug ring.
Aedi Ariff was detained in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and extradited to the Sultanate on August 9. Follow up operations were carried out since August 17, said the NCB, adding that seven individuals aged 25 to 33 were arrested in connection to the syndicate.
The follow-up operation confiscated 3.74 grammes of Syabu, drug paraphernalia, several units of mobile phones, debit cards and one laptop believed to be used in carrying out drug distribution activities.
The NCB believes that the syndicate has been supplying and distributing drugs to local students who are studying abroad.
One of the suspects arrested in the follow-up operation is a 24-year-old University student studying in a neighbouring country, said the NCB, adding that he was believed to be involved in drug trafficking activities carried out by the syndicate abroad.
The NCB reminded all citizens of this country, especially students abroad, to stay away from drug abuse and drug trafficking activities.
