Services producer price index increases 1.6pc

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) – The Services Producer Price Index (SPPI) rose by 1.6 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) for the fourth quarter of 2017 (4Q17).

The SPPI measures the average changes in the price of services as charged by the local services industry on a quarterly basis.

The Statistics Department, in its ‘Services Producer Price Index Fourth Quarter 2017’ report today, said the sub-sectors which recorded positive growth y-o-y were accommodation and food & beverage service activities (4.2 per cent); education (2.3 per cent); health (2.1 per cent); real estate activities (1.6 per cent); arts, entertainment and recreation (0.9 per cent); professional (0.6 per cent); transportation (0.4 per cent); and, information & communication (0.1 per cent).

Meanwhile, it said, on a quarter-on-quarter basis, the SPPI for 4Q17 also registered an increase of 0.4 per cent.

The sub-sectors that contributed positively to the growth were arts, entertainment and recreation (one per cent); accommodation and food & beverage service activities (0.8 per cent); transportation (0.3 per cent); professional (0.3 per cent); and, and real estate activities and health (0.1 per cent).
