OBSERVANCE ceremonies for the 73-times Khatam Al-Quran presentation by Mukim and Village Consultative Council members and students from schools and higher education institutions nationwide were held yesterday.
The event is being held in conjunction with the 73rd birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The ceremonies – which took place after mass Asar prayer and held simultaneously in all four districts at a number of selected mosques – are a follow-up to the event launching ceremony in all four districts on May 2.
A total of 1,708 people participated in the ceremonies, comprising Mukim and Village Consultative Council members from all four districts; students from across the country; students of Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Arabic schools, Al-Quran Reading Scheme for Youth and religious schools; and Khatam Al-Quran Scheme students.
In the Temburong District, the ceremony was held at the Utama Mohammad Salleh Mosque, with Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong as the guest of honour.
In the Tutong District, the event was held at the RPN Bukit Beruang Mosque with Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Muhammad Yusof as the guest of honour.
In the Brunei-Muara District, the ceremony was held at the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah with Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman as guest of honour.
The events began with a mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the guest of honour, followed by a mass recitation of verses of Al-Quran.
The events concluded with a special Doa to seek Allah the Almighty’s blessing for the country’s continued peace and prosperity under the benevolent leadership of His Majesty, as well as to pray for His Majesty’s continued good health.
In the Belait District, the ceremony was held at the Muhammad Jamalul Alam Mosque with Permanent Secretary (Safety, Welfare and Law) at the Ministry of Home Affairs Mohd Amir Hairil bin Haji Mahmud as the guest of honour.
Some 412 people from the Belait District participated in the event, including Deputy Permanent Secretary (Municipal and District) at the Ministry of Home Affairs Abdul Walid bin Haji Matassan; Legislative Council (LegCo) member and Penghulu of Mukim Liang Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin; LegCo member and Acting Penghulu of Mukim Labi Yang Berhormat Hanapi bin Mohd Siput; Belait District Officer Ramlee bin Haji Jamudin; heads of department and senior officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Belait District Office; mukim penghulu and village heads; as well as members from the Mukim and Village Consultative Council.
