PERMANENT Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah attended the 10th Japan-ASEAN Defence Vice-Ministerial Forum in Nagoya, Japan recently.
Senior officials from the defence ministries of ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Secretariat attended the forum hosted by Japan.
The forum was chaired by Japan’s Vice-Minister of Defence for International Affairs Ro Manabe, which serves as a platform for ASEAN member states and Japan to strengthen and forge closer ties.
The forum was divided into three sessions this year, which focussed on ‘Challenges in and Efforts for Sharing Universal Values Centred at the Rule of Law,’ ‘Challenges and Efforts in Coping with Disasters’ and ‘Vision for Further Deepening Japan-ASEAN Defence Cooperation.’
Malaysian Minister of Defence Haji Mohammad bin Sabu delivered a special address focussing on Malaysia’s current defence cooperation under Prime Minister Dr Tun Mahathir Mohamad’s administration.
At the sidelines of the forum, Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar held bilateral talks with his counterparts.
The delegation also visited Gifu Works of Kawasaki Heavy Industry, Japan’s premier manufacturers of aircraft and space systems.
