A SEMINAR themed ‘Industry 4.0: Convergence of Innovation’ was held at the Lecture Theatre 2, Library Complex of the Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) in conjunction with the Crown Prince Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement (CIPTA) Award 2019 competition yesterday.
Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Services) of UTB Haji Ady Syarmin bin Haji Md Taib was the guest of honour.
The seminar began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by a welcoming remark by UTB Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering Dr Haji Mohd Khairul Ja’afar bin Haji Masri in his capacity as the Head of the Seminar Committee.
He underlined that the seminar was part of the CIPTA 2019 initiatives to inspire, motivate and encourage inventors towards development and commercialisation, and to share knowledge and experience. He hoped that the participants of CIPTA 2019 and guests can benefit from the presentation and enable them to interact with the speakers.
The two speakers were Faculty of Engineering Technology of Universiti Malaysia Perlis Associate Professor Dr Mohd Mustafa Al Bakri Abdullah, who spoke on ‘Expose Your Talent to the World through Creative and Innovative Thinking’, and Senior Legal Advisor of Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development from Institut Teknologi Bandung R Rizky A Adiwilaga, who presented on ‘Intellectual Property Commercialisation Indonesia Currently: Case Study Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB)’.
The Crown Prince CIPTA Award is a biennial competition organised by UTB in partnership with Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd, and CIPTA 2019 is the eighth CIPTA competition.
There are three local categories in CIPTA 2019 namely Category 1 – Creating New Product, Process or Technology; Category 2 – Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology; and Category 3 – Creating New or Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology by Young Inventors.
The ‘Smart Junior Competition’ is for lower secondary school students (Years 7-9) in the country, while the ASEAN category is participated by individuals or teams from ASEAN other than Brunei Darussalam.
It is divided into two sub-categories namely: New Invention and Innovation Category; and Young Inventor Category.
The Crown Prince CIPTA Award is aimed to encourage and develop the culture of creations, inventions and innovations in Brunei Darussalam and covers all areas of Sciences, Technology and Engineering.
The judging process of CIPTA entries had been completed on March 6 and the competition will conclude with an award ceremony which will be announced on a later date.
