The Intermediate Court recently handed sentences to two security personnel who broke into their posts to steal while on duty.
Mohd Bahiyuddin bin Mohd Bakri received four years and six days’ jail with six whippings while Mohd Hanif bin Abdullah received three years’ jail with two whippings.
Judge Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Bahar weighed in on the fact that the duo had breached the trust put on them as security personnel on duty. The court further highlighted Mohd Bahiyuddin’s position as an inspector and person in charge overseeing the patrolling of the area.
“Mohd Bahiyuddin had a fiduciary duty to protect and safeguard the building. Instead, he breached that duty,” the court stressed. “In addition, he invited one of his peers to commit housebreaking.”
Prosecutor Nur Aeny Alisah binti Haji Zullizam meanwhile, revealed that the duo were involved in the housebreaking after 10pm on January 25, 2023. Mohd Bahiyuddin acknowledged his role as the person in charge at the time of the incident and admitted to looking for cigarettes in offices where they were not permitted to enter.
Mohd Hanif, accompanying Mohd Bahiyuddin, stole two blue-coloured pens during the unauthorised entry.
Their actions were captured on CCTV, leading to their subsequent arrest. The stolen pens were later found in Mohd Bahiyuddin’s residence. – Fadley Faisal
