A quartet of substitutes came off the bench to inspire the Brunei Darussalam national team to a 4-0 victory over local club Kasuka FC in a friendly football match at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas on Friday.

The friendly match marked a first live football match in the country for over a year following the implementation of Level 5 (New Normal) de-escalation plan, which took effect earlier this month.

Both sides were reduced to 10 men just shy of the break after national forward Abdul Azizi bin Ali Rahman and Kasuka defender Samuel Kojo Abbey were given their marching orders in the 43rd minute by referee Amdillah Zainuddin.

After a goalless first half, Hamizan Aziz bin Sulaiman opened the scoring in the 54th minute before fellow substitute Mohd Najib bin Haji Tarif doubled the lead in the 73rd minute.

Razimie bin Ramlli got into the act in the 80th minute before Maziri bin Maidin concluded the scoring four minutes from time.

Left back Muhd Hanif Farhan bin Azman was given the nod while Asri bin Haji Aspar, who earned his first cap in the World Cup qualifiers against Mongolia, started in centre midfield.

With Muhammad Azwan Ali Rahman installed as captain, his young DPMM FC teammate Hakeme Yazid bin Said led the line upfront alongside Abdul Azizi.

The match also enabled Kasuka, who have been drawn against FC Chanthabouly in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup, to introduce their new foreign arrivals including Japanese goalkeeper Wada Shota, Nigerian defender Babatunde Fatai and Ghanaian defender Samuel Kojo.

Ivory Coast midfielder Franck Alwin Yapo and Liberian forward Leon Sullivan Taylor were already part of the Kasuka team in the Brunei Super League last year before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Wasps have also been scheduled to play an all-star team next at the same venue
on Tuesday.
