A SEARCH is on for a 41-year-old local man believed missing after his racing boat reportedly hit a bridge pillar and capsized in Sungai Kedayan, near the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas yesterday.
In a statement released by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), witnesses at the scene said the incident occurred at 2.25pm when the victim was conducting routine speed tests near the Eco-Corridor pedestrian bridge.
Initial investigation suggested that the victim had lost control of the boat and hit one of the bridge pillars, causing the boat to overturn and drift.
Search crew comprising personnel from the RBPF, the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) and the victim’s family members were at the scene to provide assistance.
The RBPF reminded boat users about the importance of wearing a safety life jacket while operating or onboard water transportation.
All parties must comply with safety requirements set out by the authorities and wear life jackets.
