Jerudong International School (JIS) held its first Scouts Investiture Ceremony at the Sports Complex on February 22.

The scout members received their Jerudong Scout Group neckerchief and woggle made from bamboo grown within the school’s Outdoor Discovery Centre.

Students and parents attended the ceremony where the scouts received Scout Membership Award and made the Scout Promise.

Scouts Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) was set up in September 2020 for JIS students with the aim to encourage the physical, intellectual, social and emotional development of young people.

“After being a scout myself for years, I was keen to get back into scouting. I want to encourage children to be resilient and strong and to care for the community that they are part of, be that local, school wide or even international,” said Scout Leader and JIS teacher Victoria Moriarty.

Following the investiture, the scouts demonstrated the skills they learnt by a campfire.

JIS Principal Nicholas Sheehan said this activity will create a natural pathway into the well-established International Award Scheme (Duke of Edinburgh award) at JIS for Years 10 and above.

“The scout troop adds another opportunity for our younger students to develop and nurture their leadership skills,” he said.
