School marks Chinese New Year with lion dance, cultural demonstration

THE students and teachers of Chung Hwa School, Kiudang recently ushered in the Chinese New Year celebration with a cultural demonstration as well as traditional dance and lion dance performances.

Principal of the school Loo Shee Yun said the students are privileged to be able to participate in such performances as this will teach them the cultural significance of the Chinese New Year and also promotes better ties among the school populace.

The principal thanked and congratulated the organising committee for their hard work and commitment in ensuring the smooth running of the function.

She thanked parents and students for their support to the school.

A Chinese calligraphy demonstration was held for members of the school Board of Governors and parents. The school also held a demonstration of a Chinese tea ceremony.

The highlight of the celebration was a lion dance by students of Year 5 and Year 6 followed by a dragon performance.

The event ended with the members of the school Board of Governors handing over angpao and mandarin oranges to the students.
