School grows from strength to strength marking Silver Jubilee

Fun games and activities marked Pengiran Setia Negara Pengiran Mohd Yusof Primary School’s (SRPSNPMY) Silver Jubilee celebration last Saturday, participated by students, teachers, parents and guardians, as well as former teachers and staff members.

Held across the school compound, the celebration was organised by the school’s Parents and Teachers Association (PTA).

The event’s theme Lestarikan Gemilangnya (Keeping it Brilliant) served to not only celebrate the school’s 25th anniversary, but also to provide a platform to reflect on the history in moving forward in aiding the students of the school to develop and grow in their academic and co-curriculum.

The school’s first headmaster who had served in his position for six years from 1993 to 1999, Juna bin Jumat, was the guest of honour. He was welcomed by Assistant Headmaster and Chairman of the celebration Haji Ide Ismawee bin Haji Ismail and current Headmistress Raidah binti Juni.

Representatives from local agencies set up booths and stalls across the school compound. Among the participating agencies were Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP), Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC), RYS Entertainment, Serikandi Technical Service Division, Milo Nestle, Kim Teck Cheong Grandtop Sdn Bhd, Pustaka Remaja, Jeststar Enterprise, and Syarikat Teras Maju, as well as various local small and medium enterprises.

The celebration strated off with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by teacher Mohd Azami bin Mohd Nor, followed by a brief speech by Haji Ide Ismawee.

He said that over the course of 25 years, six headmasters and headmistresses with the aid of 13 assistant headmasters and headmistresses and 173 teachers devoted their efforts to achieve the goals and vision of the school.

He explained steps taken by the school, especially in helping students achieve their target results in the Primary School Assessment (PSR), strides made by the school’s PTA to establish closer connection between the parents and the teachers of the school, as well as collaboration with various agencies in creating quality education for the students.

The event continued with a video highlighting the various activities conducted over the course of the school’s history; followed by the officiating of the celebration, with the guest of honour unveiling as well as signing the banner for the school’s Silver Jubilee celebration.

Multicultural performances were also conducted by the school’s Years 2 and 5 students.

The guest of honour also cut the ribbon to officiate the opening of the gallery titled Galeri Ristaan as a conglomeration of the history of the school as well as the achievements made over the course of 25 years.

Activities held included a fun fair and sports, as well as games and practical experiments conducted by BSP and OGDC. Vendors provided entertainment including flying fox, karaoke, reptile and pet show, and mascot appearance.
