Sarawak delegation visits SEAMEO Voctech, LCB

Nineteen delegates from the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), Sarawak Skills Development Centre (SSDC), IBTE and liaison officers visited Laksamana College of Business (LCB) to discuss on potential future collaborations in the BIMP-EAGA TVET Symposium.

The objectives of the pre-engagement sessions for the visitation were to discuss the collaboration of programme development and certification, staff or student exchange programme, sharing of technologies, benchmarking visit and to promote 3rd BIMP-EAGA TVET Symposium.

LCB Deputy Principal and COO Sivarajah Subramaniam along with the college’s heads of departments welcomed the delegates. From the MEITD were Permanent Secretary at the MEITD Haji Azmi bin Haji Bujang; and Principal Assistant Secretary, Talent Development Division, MEITD Hajah Khaninah binti Haji Ariff.

Meanwhile, from the SSDC were Executive Director Hallman bin Sabri; Deputy Executive Director (Education, Training and Student Services) Zakri Md Salleh, and Deputy Executive Director (Corporate Services) Amy Francis Najur.

SEAMEO Voctech also welcomed the delegation.

The delegation also visited the TVET Regional Centre, led by MEITD Permanent Secretary.
Welcoming the delegation to SEAMEO Voctech were centre director Alias Haji bin Abu Bakar, deputy directors, managers, consultants and officers.

SEAMEO Voctech was one of the centres that MEITD had earmarked to visit to discuss potential collaborations on each other’s niche TVET training provisions and expertise, as well as in sharing good practices for mutual development.

The delegation got better acquainted with one another and shared information on TVET programmes and activities from the centres and Sarawak. Each centre presented its corporate video, highlighting notable programmes, achievements, partnerships and future strategic plans.

The SEAMEO Voctech centre director elaborated on achievements and expressed the centre’s ambitions to move forward into the era of digitalisation incorporating AR and VR technologies, as well as on green technology.

The MEITD permanent secretary said, “We are always keen to train not only our youth, but to also upskill our current (human) resources. There is no hindrance for participation and exchanges of Sarawak human resources with other countries.”

SSDC representative Zakri Md Salleh also promoted the 3rd BIMP-EAGA TVET Conference during the visit.
