Sapling planting to tackle climate crisis

Colours of Planet Earth (COPE) organised a sapling planting with 40 Politeknik Brunei Lumut Campus students on Thursday.

The event aimed to raise awareness on the climate crisis and how deforestation can worsen the problem. Fifty eugenia oleina saplings were planted.

COPE representatives project leader Mohammad Syafiq bin Mohammad Idris, assistant project leader Batrishya Athirah binti Haji Shahrurrizam, treasurer Mohammad Hafizzuddin Naziri bin Handdy, and media manager Eman Ridhauddin bin Mohammad Khairul Azmi were accompanied by Politeknik Brunei Lumut Campus students. The event began with an awareness talk on the importance of trees in reducing carbon dioxide levels in the air where high concentrations from burning of fossil fuels can cause poor air quality leading to preventable health complications.

A quiz session was also held to test the students’ general knowledge on trees.

The project is supported by Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA) Brunei and the Embassy of United States in Brunei Darussalam.
